For the shower floor to finish level with the bathroom floor and still drain, the subfloor underneath has to be recessed. Whether that is straightforward or structural depends on which way your joists run and how deep they are, and neither is visible from inside the bathroom.
That is the honest reason two bids for the same shower can differ by a multiple, and the reason nobody honest quotes one over the phone.

Before
A high-walled tub in a small room. Nothing here is broken, which is why the decision gets postponed until a fall or a discharge from hospital forces it.

The tub is out and the floor is open. This is the part no photograph on a brochure shows, and the part that decides whether the finished floor drains: the slope is built here, not tiled on afterwards.
After
Tile runs level from the room into the shower, so nothing has to be stepped over. The bench and the bar are anchored into solid blocking put in while the wall was open.

Tile is the part you choose and the part you are shown. The waterproofing behind it, and the slope built into the mortar bed under it, are what decide whether the room is still dry in five years. Both are finished before anyone sees a sample.
